There might be a weather warning in place for much of the country today, but warmer conditions are on the horizon.

If the team at Met Eireann are on the money, Cork will be bathed in glorious summer sunshine again by Wednesday.

While heavy, thundery showers are forecast in the west and south, it will remain relatively warm, with ‘above normal’ temperatures – possibly hitting 24C in some areas.

Balmy.

By Wednesday it’ll be time to test drive those new summer shorts; the day will begin dry and warm, with temperatures hitting the low 20s.

Thursday and Friday will also be dry, with sunny intervals and while heavy, thundery showers are still a threat to those barbecue plans, temperatures should remain in the low 20s in many areas and a little cooler on coasts, with sea breezes.

According to the national forecaster, early indications suggest that it will remain warm and mostly dry for the weekend, with some sunshine and just a slight chance of a few scattered showers.

We’ll take it, if only for the chance to try out our new flip-flops without getting frostbite.
