Not only is Ballyvolane House one of the most Instagram-friendly getaway spots in the country, it’s also one of the most generous.

Book one night’s accommodation and a four-course seasonal dinner at the classical Georgian country house in Castlelyons, Fermoy and you’ll also receive a bottle of Bertha’s Revenge, their very own small-batch Irish milk gin, to take home.

Sweet deal, especially if you consider yourself a bit of a gin connoisseur.

The unique tipple is made using whey alcohol from Irish cows milk, infused with 18 locally foraged botanicals and local spring water.

And if new flavours are your thing, you’ll relish dinner, generally taken ‘house-party style’ with the other guests around the main dining table.

Ballyvolane’s vast walled garden produces exotic vegetables such as sea kale, Tuscan kale, asparagus and globe artichokes as well as four kinds of potatoes, chard, spinach, courgettes, curly kale and beetroot, while all meat is sourced from local artisan butchers.

The Green family make all their own jams and marmalade, breads, pastries and cakes for breakfast (and time before 12) and all guests enjoy complimentary homemade elderflower cordial, homemade Ribena and a jar of homemade chocolate in the bedrooms.
